THE Runners were faced with temperatures of around 2-3 degrees Celsius from 8 am, strong gusts of wind and bone-chilling cold awaited everyone throughout the day, with the temperature often feeling around -7 °C. Snowfall also arrived in the second half of the day, so those who started today had to contend not only with the distance, but also with the weather.
However, all this did not dampen the spirits of the field: the most popular event of the day was the half marathon, with around 1,500 participants, but many also completed the third marathon, quarter marathon and sixth marathon on the iconic route of the Balaton coast.
Today was not only about running, but also a real mental and physical challenge: wind in the face, icy air, damp, wintery Lake Balaton weather - and yet smiling finishers, jingling finisher medals, shared photos and a season-ending running party atmosphere.
Tomorrow we will continue the weekend in Fonyód, with new distances and new experiences - Sunday's half marathon, quarter marathon and mini marathon are coming up to close this year's running season in a worthy way.
If you ran today: write in the comments which distance you started and how you experienced this winter half marathon/marathon in Lake Balaton!
And if you come tomorrow: get ready, because it won't be easy - but it will be all the more memorable.
